I'm going through a bit of a slump recently reading wise, which is a pain in the perineum considering literature makes me giddy like a schoolgirl more than anything else. It seems to be something that a lot of people go through every now and again.

So, I was wondering what's the biggest slump you've had reading wise?
Also, what form does it take? Simply no reading at all for an extended period of time? Or are you like me, in that I'm still reading but I'm having to break it down into really small chunks because I can't seem to read longer than half an hour at the moment.

I tend to go through that when reading too much of the same "type" of books: whether genre, style, author, theme &c. Sometimes switching it up radically can help. Reading to much postmodern fiction, switch to Victorian biography for example.

You have to decide if what is causing the slump is what you are reading or simply the act of reading. If it is the act of reading, then a small break is not the worst thing. Or try writing: that could really light the spark.

I second the idea of changing your reading matter. Otherwise, I think slumps are just natural fatigue. Everybody has limits.

My longest slump lasted a couple years. I only read books for school.
