Right, I just wanna give u guys a taste of a novel I'm currently working on. It is a romance and I published it on another website and got good reviews and I am hoping you can be even better at reviews! It's called "27 years of waiting" and to be unique I use quote marks as speech marks! Keep in mind I'm 13 hehe so have many years left to improve! Thanks! And each chapter is named after a gemstone. And don't say in the prologue she sounds too childish to be 14, I made her a bit of a brat and so it's purposeful! :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blurb:
Opal stares at the stars each night. One star for a new friend. Two for a new best friend. Three for a new romance. Four for an old everlasting partner. She saw four.
Prologue (She is 14 here guys!):
My mummy has always told me that one day I would find the one. She says because of my beauty I could get anyone. I have long blonde hair, sapphire blue eyes and have a slim figure. Mummy says I'm the prettiest girl in the world.
I pull down my long dress with diamonds embedded in it, they sparkle as the moonlight shimmers down. I have always had money, it's something I grew up with and I buy lots of diamond clothing, it has no price to me.
As I walk along the streets a busker sings sweetly a song he has invented.
'Diamonds like the sky's stars, love is a word too short...' He continues, the sound welcoming itself into my ears. His brown hair lets itself knit into a mess. I take out my purse filled with money and I look cautiously. I may be rich but I'm not the kind to give away loads, I don't want to get my money taken away from me do I? I take out a fiver and place it in his guitar case, smiling at him.
'Love is complic-' The boy's voice stops as he stares at me, admiring my details.
'Thank you.' He smiles for a second before continuing the song. I peer into the case and notice I am the only one who has given him any money. His smile fades away as he starts concentrating on singing. Beautiful his voice is, as soft as rich velvet.
Chapter One: Opal:
Four stars light up the sky; meaning I will meet a guy I knew from years ago again and we shall be together forever. I have been waiting twenty seven years to get more than two stars and finally they come. Four beautiful diamond stars.
'Opal!' My name flows through the air like the oceans waves. I open the back door and step into one of my living rooms.
'Yes Christie!' I call, gazing in the mirror to my right. She beckons me over to her bedroom.
'I've got it! Me and Jude have been doing some research. We found a guy that is perfect for you!' She cries in happiness.
'Jude helps?' I question, not containing the giggles.
'Yes! He does so.' She smiles admiringly at the ceiling. Jude is her fiancé and I cannot blame her as he is quite the looker. She opens her Apple laptop and shows me a man. He likes guitar, piercings, rock music and smoking. I like the guitar bit but apart from that he doesn't seem for me.
Chapter Two: Diamond:
'Opal... What I put on the website wasn't true... I just did it so I'd get a girl but with you I feel I can tell you anything. I like dinosaurs.' He mumbles in my ears. I feel like I'm going to fall asleep any moment but hold myself up.
'That's nice.' I lie, stuffing the pizza into my mouth; the only good thing about this night. 'Oh, I need to go... Work!' I quickly say, picking up my bag and running for the outside.
'Wait! I need your num-' I hear distant noises but manage to come to my home just in time.
'Christie! He's a nightmare.' I tell her as I go in the house.
'I'm sure he's not that bad.' She grins, taking my hand.
'I nearly fell asleep.' I mutter, sighing with relief.
'Aww... Sorry. How about to make up for it tomorrow we have a girls day out, yeah?' Christie knows how much I love shopping and the buskers... oh the buskers...
'Yeah, why not?' I smile, taking off my skirt and knickers and replacing them with soft as kittens pyjama bottoms. I pull off my blouse and put on my pyjama top with a kitten on it, I love kittens.
'Night.' I grin to Christie.
'Night.' She replies as I make my way to my own bedroom and cuddle up to the fluffy duvet and feel myself drift off into a peaceful land...
Chapter Three: Emerald:
I walk in the town, wearing my sequin and shining white top with a short white skirt to match. My blue as the sapphire earrings on my ears, eyes sparkle lightly as the sun beams down on them. Christie has deep brown as chocolate hair and a nice tan to match her green as emeralds eyes. She is pretty and has fashion sense like me. That is why she is my best friend and we are both twenty seven years of age and she is getting married soon.
But that makes me think; I have no one yet I am so much richer.
I walk along the pavement to spot a busker, he looks similar to someone I saw years ago when I was fourteen. The perfect busker he was.
'A beautiful young lady shall be mine... Tonight...' He sings sweetly, brushing my ears into heaven. I get out some money.
'How much?' Christie asks. 'I want to give him so much but sadly cannot, I'll give him a tenner which is more than I have paid before.' I beam. I take it out and put it in his guitar case.
'Take my hand.' He whispers.
'What?'
'Take it. Dance with me as I sing young lady.' He grins.
'Well... Yes!' I beam as he puts his hand into mine. I like how his brown hair knits itself into a mess...
Chapter Four: Ruby:
I dance the whole day through without noticing and when I turn I see Christie smiling. I thought she'd be annoyed but she doesn't look it. Then she walks away. I try calling her over but she disappears out of the crowd. It's just me and the busker.
'I'm Turque, everyone calls me Turquoise as a bit of a joke though.' He smiles as his beautiful blue eyes meet mine.
'I'm Opal.' I smile, looking at his clothing. 'I like turquoise.' I smile.
'Me too.' And then he leans in. 'You like my music?' He asks.
'Love it.' I reply.
'My number. Ring me.' He slips a piece of paper into my hand and waves goodbye. The night went so fast but now I know something. He was the busker I saw when I was fourteen, I remember it all so vividly.
And I know something else too.
The stars tell the truth.
Chapter Five: Sapphire:
As I wake up to the fresh mornings air my mouth turns into an upright grin. I have the number of Turquoise. I think his name is Turquoise anyway...
I dial the number.
'Hello?' A grumpy voice mutters.
'Erm hi... It's Opal. Is... That Turquoise?' I ask, quietly.
'Already calling me that? You fit right in.' He chuckles, his voice softening slightly. I don't exactly understand but let out a giggle.
'How are you Opal?' He asks, happiness filling his voice.
'Good ever since yesterday... Your voice is so beautiful.' I start munching a chocolate bar whilst speaking. Deliciousness fills my mouth.
'Hehe... Girl, you can dance!' He exclaims in joy. I can't help but giggle.
'I seem to remember you from a long time ago-' I start.
'When I was fourteen. I remember a girl who looks like you.'
'Me too! I gave a fiver. The only money you had!' I can't help but be excited. Maybe he was the one.
'Yes. I remember you... That beautiful dress you wore. Were they real diamonds?' He asks.
'Yes.' I reply, feeling like I can tell him anything.
'Wow. How about a little evening out together next Sunday?' He asks.
'Like a date?' I ask.
'Yes. Meet me at 44 Crystal Road at 6 PM on Sunday.' He calmly tells me.
'Sure.' I laugh. I am going on a date finally! After 27 years of waiting.
Chapter Six: Topaz:
Christie knows something has gone on with me and Turquoise.
'So...' She starts. 'Have you got his number?'
'One step ahead of you; we're going on a date next Sunday!' I excitedly grin.
'Oooh... What's his name?' She asks.
'Turquoise.' I smile.
'Turquoise? Funny...' She laughs.
'I think that's just what everyone calls him. Can't remember his real name.' I explain, laughing. 'I think it's something like turd...' We both burst out laughing.
'That would be unfortunate!' Christie exclaims.
'Turque I think...' I say, more seriously.
'Mmm... He looked nice. Maybe you will be the perfect match.' 'Like me and Jude are. So when is it? Remember that it can't be next Sunday as that's my wedding day.' She smiles in awe.
I forgot. 'Uh... It's not.' I laugh, quickly getting out my phone. 'Just a sec.' I whisper to her.
I phone the number. The weird woman says he isn't there right now. I leave a message and hang my phone up. I hope he gets it!
Chapter 7: Amethyst:
It's Sunday and nervousness sweeps through my body. I am supposed to be a bridesmaid at Christie's wedding, I can't not be there.
I flick through my messages on my phone and find one from him.
Hi Opal, got your message and don't worry about it. I always forget about big events haha! I'll change the date of it to the first Sunday in two months. That okay with you? XX,
Love ya,
Turque
Two months? Why not before then? It seems quite a while away. I sigh and put the phone down.
'What's wrong?' Christie asks.
'Nothing it's just... He changed the date of our meal to the Sunday in two months.' I groan, putting my hands through my hair.
'Sounds like someone who isn't to be trusted if you ask me.' Christie explains.
'Well I'm NOT asking you okay?!' I yell in fury. She looks a bit taken aback, it's her wedding day and I yelled at her.
'Sorry Christie... It's just...'
'No, I should be the one sorry. ' Christie sighs.
'No... To make up for it I could help you put your dress on?' I ask, smiling.
'That'd be great.' She hugs me warmly and takes off her pyjamas and then I open the bag.
'Ready to see the dress I brought you?' I ask.
'Yeah!' Christie excitedly exclaims. I pull out one covered in tiny little diamonds all over it. They shine.
'It's beautiful! Oh god, how can I ever repay you? It must have cost lo-'
'Shh... It's your wedding day. You don't have to repay me.' I giggle. She wraps her arms around me and then her eyes light up.
'Oh Opal.' She excitedly grins. 'I can't wait.'
Chapter Eight: Amber:
Christie walks down the aisle, me behind her in my pink plain dress. I usually do not have pink plain dresses but I have to look worst than her for her big day, I don't want to steal her thunder.
As she comes to the front and Jude stares into her eyes I smile at their passion for each other.
The vicar rambles on and on until he comes to those oh-so important words. The best men pass the rings to them.
'Do you Jude take Christie to be your lawfully wedded wife?' The vicar asks.
'Wow.' Jude stares in awe at Christie for a moment. 'Y-yes I do.' He grins.
'And do you Christie take Jude to be your lawfully wedded husband?'
'I do.' Christie replies, staring at Jude as Christie slots a ring onto Jude's finger and Jude does the same then the vicar says the words they have been waiting for.
'You may kiss the bride.'
Swamps of applause fill the air but I can't help but think about what Christie said about Turquoise.
Someone who isn't to be trusted... Isn't to be trusted... Isn't to be trusted.
'Opal?' Christie glares at me, quite worried. I snap out of my dream.
'Uh... Well done.' I smile.
Isn't to be trusted.
Chapter Nine: Turquoise:
The day after the wedding I text Turquoise.
Why in two months? Why?
Opal xx
His reply is almost instant.
I am busy with work. Okay?
Turque XX
I sigh. That reply isn't promising, work could put a variety of different ideas into my mind. I close my mind for a second and am comforted with peace.
'You okay?' Christie asks.
'Yeah...' I sigh. The real answer was no, I was not okay. Turquoise had purposely confused me. I know it.
Chapter Ten: Pearl:
I feel alone, just me.
'I know something that will cheer you up!' Christie smiles. 'I'm not going on my honeymoon until next week so how about I take you on another girls day out?' She asks.
'No.' I reply.
'That's not like you. Is it this "Turquoise" feller?' She asks, slightly concerned for me.
'Maybe.'
'Well maybe you should realise that he is nothing to me and should be nothing to you too. You only just met the guy!'
'You're right.' I groan and get up. 'Fine, a day in town sounds nice. I'll just get ready.' I explain, starting to comb my hair.
Chapter Eleven: Jet:
As me and Christie walk through the town a familiar sound hits our ears. She pushes me around but I stop.
'No Christie. I can't be scared of him. He always does his busking here. I will never get past this part of town if I turn around.' I explain to her. 'And I don't want to miss the top designer stores do I?' I add.
'No... I guess.' Christie smiles and we turn back around.
'This one's dedicated to that pretty blonde lady at the back.' I turned my head around. He was staring at me.
'I'm sorry I can't be with you... But let me tell you that I love you... I'm sorry I can't be with you but I will always find you in my he-he-he-heart...' He starts. I realise I'm lost in thought of him as Christie pulls me along.
'Wait.' I beam. 'I love you too!' I call to Turquoise. He nods his head and continues singing. 'I love him Christie.' I whisper.
'I understand.' She smiles. 'Go.'
I run to Turquoise and pull him up to dance, forgetting about Christie. Just me and him forever...
Chapter Twelve: Aquamarine:
I walk home and just as I'm about to unlock the door the door flings open. It's Jude.
'You're meant to be Christie's best friend!' He exclaims.
'I am.' I tell him, slightly confused.
'She came home crying and I think you had something to do with it. She was really excited about having a girls day out with you. Now, you don't need to tell me what happened but you do need to go and see Christie.' Jude points to the stairs. I nod and creep up them. I heard sobbing. I knock lightly on Christie's room.
'Go away.' She mumbles.
'It's me.' I push the door open and see her lying on her bed, head in hands.
'Go away.' She repeats.
'Look, I was very selfish and I am sorry. How about we go out tomorrow together?' I ask.
'The damage has been done.' She whispers.
'I will do anything to make it up to you.' I wrap my arms around her.
'Fine. It's me or him. I hate to be so harsh but choose. Me. Or. Him.'
Chapter Thirteen: Tourmaline:
My head is full of thoughts; who do I like better? Christie or Turque?
I cry as I decide, I have no idea which one I like better.
I go to Christie with the answer.
'I think... I think the answer is-' Christie's mouth opens and tears swell her eyes as she looks to the floor. I call Turque.
'Hello.' He says.
'Hi...' I sob.
'What's wrong?' He asks.
'Christie has kicked me out.'
'Oh.'
Chapter Fourteen: Fluorite:
I take my suitcases from the house to see Turquoise waiting.
'Hiya Turque...' I whisper, my voice trembling. I look up to see Christie looking out her window, crying. I break down in tears.
'Hey, hey... Don't cry.' Turquoise grins, pushing his hand into mine. I look up one more time before going with Turquoise.
'Where will I stay?' I ask.
'I'll find somewhere.' He whispers, smiling at me. I hoped he would say "come live with me" but he didn't. I smile anyway, just to show him I still love him.
Which I do- right?
Chapter Fifteen: Azurite:
I find a hotel by the sea. I decide to stay there for a month and then see if anything comes up.
'Bye.' Turque smiles, shaking his brown fringe out of his eyes. I walk into the hotel and pay the money, my money, and go up to my hotel room. I unlock the door and go on through. The first thing I do is collapse on the bed, crying.
Bring bring, bring bring...
I look at my "classic" sounded mobile and see who it is. Jude. I decline call and put it down. Then he texts.
You can't ignore me forever okay? What you did broke my Christie's heart. You are meant to be her friend! I guess you just care about the guy that I bet has made you use your own money on some hotel away from where he lives.
-Jude
He usually did kisses because I was a good friend of his. I sigh. I have made my life a mess. And the problem is; he speaks the truth.
I did use my own money on some hotel far away from where he lives.
Bring bring, bring bring...
I look, it's Turquoise. I answer it, sniffing.
'Hello.' I pretend to be all happy.
'Hi O pal.' He sniggers.
'Opal.' I correct, laughing to amuse his joke.
'Just checking you were OK.' He explains.
'Well I am just fine.' I lie.
'Bye.'
'Bye.'
Then I hang up. It was nice of him to call only to ask how I was. I don't know why I'm so sad, he's perfect...
Chapter Sixteen: Labradorite:
Broke Christie's heart... Broke Christie's heart...
Bring bringgg... Bring brriiinnnnggg...
I answer the phone without thinking of who it might be, just worrying about Christie... I ripped her heart apart.
'You finally answer!' The sobbing cries call. I realise it's Christie.
'No- I...'
'I miss you... But you're too busy with your "lovely" boyfriend...' She cries, barely getting the word out.
'Wait- Christie!'
'No... Me and Jude are on our honeymoon tomorrow. I won't bother saying goodbye...'
'Bye...' I say to her.
'Don't. I just wanted to hear three words but they weren't heard were they. No.' Christie mumbles, sad. I made her sad.
'I love you?' I say. She bursts out laughing.
'Even when we are not best friends, you still make me laugh. No, those were not the words.' She hangs up after that leaving me to sob in my own misery.
The misery I caused.
Chapter Seventeen: Peridot:
I stare up at the sky. No stars shine down on me, instead rain of my misery comes down against my face. I let myself soak it in, not bothering to go back to the hotel.
My eyes close as I dream how my life used to be before he came. I had a home, a best friend, another good friend; I had a life. Recently my life has been a bit like a jigsaw puzzle when you first start. Still trying to get it back together; but, pieces get lost.
'I knew I'd find you here.' A voice whispers. I turn around. It isn't Christie, it isn't Turquoise, it isn't Jude... It's my own sister. The one that hadn't kept contact since I left home.
'Why are you here? How?' I ask, standing up.
'Relax. Someone who doesn't wish to be named got in contact with me.' She grins. 'I'm your sister. I'm not here to have a go. I'm here to help put your life back together.' She smiled, hugging me. I didn't refuse it despite our constant blows before I left with Christie. I missed her after a few months. And now she's here I feel like...
I love her. I'm glad she's back.
'But how can I? I've already destroyed it.' I cry.
'Every cloud has a silver lining.' Her voice whispers.
Chapter Eighteen: Apatite:
I knock against the oak door twice.
A hand slowly twists the handle and opens it slowly. She peers round for a moment only to see me.
'You...' She whispers. 'Why?' She asks.
'Because I have found the three words.' I smile.
'You have?' She asks, quietly.
'I am sorry.'
Her face lights up for a second. 'Sometimes you need to act to show that you are sorry. You need to do something to make me sure.' She grins.
'Here is the first act.' I smile. 'Jude!' I yell. He runs down the stairs.
'You...' He whispers then I repeat the three words to him.
Then I make the call.
Chapter Nineteen: Sphene:
'Hello?' His voice sweetly asks.
'Hi...' I mumble.
'Babe?'
'I... I... Can't go out with you.' I cry. 'Sorry.'
'I...' Tears overwhelm him and he hangs up.
I hate having to do that to him.
'What's wrong?' Christie asks.
'I dumped him.'
She wraps her arms round me despite all the awful things I have done. She is amazing.
'How about we do a just-us shopping day out?' She suggests. And this time when I say yes, I mean yes.
Chapter Twenty: Agate:
But my sister still haunts my mind, takes it over. Why did she suddenly appear out of the blue after all these years? I sit up and look to Christie. She is getting packed. Of course; today is her honeymoon. But when she gets back we will shop together... Just us two...
'Bye.' I whisper.
'Bye.' She replies, smiling. I try to contain the tears. I fail.
'I am so sorry... I mean it... I will do any-' Sobs and tears break my voice.
'Hey, hey, ssshhh....' She hugs me. 'Jude!' She yells. He barges in.
'What? Oh.'
'Tissues!' Christie exclaims. He goes out of the room and returns with a box of tissues. Christie takes one and wipes my eyes and nose. She smiles. She cares so much for me after all I've done.
'I love you Christie. You're the best friend ever.' And with that she gives me the biggest beam ever.
Chapter Twenty One: Sardonyx:
Three knocks on the door. I go down and pull it open. It's her. My sister smiles at me.
'Hello Opal.' She grins.
'Hello Ruby.' I grin.
'The same person told me to come here, told me that you're alone. Now, I'd like to meet this Turque guy and see if he is all the person says you think he is.' She pulls my mobile out of my pocket and quickly texts him to come over. He replies instantly with sure babe xx. I pull my phone back from Ruby's grasp.
'Don't do that again.' I sternly tell her. Then a knock on the door.
