I didn't see a thread on here about this but I absolutely love the large and vast amount of poetry contests and small presses and what they do to help writers that might otherwise be unheard of. I say we make a thread of contests, magazines and business that truly help out the unknown artist.

For instance, I came across this small press recently, Fence Books:

http://www.fenceportal.org/

They have a yearly contest and continue to publish the works of those who win. Plus they do a bunch of press work that other companies would leave to the authors. Plus they release some really cool stuff. I'm working on a manuscript for their 2013 poetry manuscript contest because why the heck not.

This thread is to post establishments that help the unknown writer, please add your own additions. :D

For those in the UK the Norwich Writers Centre is a wealth of useful stuff, also their yearly esculator award has given a lot of new writers their first good break.

New one, Keyhole Press:

Just looking around, the site is pretty awesome. Submissions with vague guidelines but looks like a good establishment which can only mean good things.

Entered a poem there just today.

Here's an online poetry magazine that accepts very short poems of no more than 4 lines and no more than 20 words:

I stumbled upon an online literary Journal called the Vine Leaves Literary Journal, and really found it excellent. They are specialized in vignettes, i.e. short pieces of fiction or poetry. Submissions for their January issue are open. Check out their site: www.vineleavesliteraryjournal.com

Plus, if I've understood correctly, they are even going to pay for accepted work (I think it's 5$ per issue - not a fortune but hey, better than nothing…)

A prrety good thread here, btw.
