An off-grey, streaky marble sky
With dark green pine crowns
Not unlike bosky afterthoughts
A chestnut tree peels off
Last remnants of seduction,
Bracing itself for white times
Stark colours wheel in updrafts,
Raindarkened streets in dim light,
Fluffy days shrink like my lifespan
(In the French Republican Calendar, the period starting with 22, 23 or 24 September was called "Vendémiaire" - from Latin vindemia, "grape harvest")
