It'll probably be Friday when anyone sees this. But it's still Thursday somewhere in the world, so here it is....

I went through the Trash real quick and found this. Not the bestest but I was actually thinking about this piece the other day.

a day after the nuclear war

my eyelids glued shut
from dried acid rain
that earlier poured out
of my eyes

I see nothing
hear nothing
though I can still feel

red
...raw
my heart fell out
I’m just a cavity
I can't move

I won't survive
or do I want to

because it’s my own fault
I started it

the first fight
is the most wrenching

This is a sister poem to your recent poem 'What have you done?'. Maybe that is why it was in your mind. Thanks for joining in Haunted. Its a great poem.

and I'm going to think of it (again!) for a long time; N's dried acid rain leaves a mark forever... it seems to me I remember this one, Haunted; you refresh, with power, the deep emotion for me.

I think brilliant and first stanza is favourite.

Jerry, I noticed, I gotta start changing my MO... but what else can fall out that that has the same feeling? Gut? Gall? I'm running out of ideas I'm afraid.

Bar, it's always an honor to be blessed with your depth!

Mutatis-Mutandis, thanks for taking the time.

Zoo, I'm really glad it worked for you : )

Hi Haunted. Sorry I missed this repost. I remember it, of course, but I can't claim it as my favourite poem of yours. I feel it ought to be ironic, especially with that title, but it doesn't come accross this way, at least, not on reading it this morning. This morning it just feels overly melodramatic, given the last four lines. However, the rest of it is exquisitely expressive of grief.

Live and be well - H

Hawk, thanks so much for the feedback. It's not every day that I can come up with a punch line so this earned its place as one of my personal favorites. But I"m sorry it wasn't quite working for you that morning. Maybe you just needed a little more coffee... with a shot of whisky :D

You're welcome, Haunted. I give as much a I get out of a poem.
