Has anyone read John Knowles "A Separate Peace?" When I read it as a sophomore in high school, our teacher drew biblical analogies in it. Do any of you see anything like that in the book?

The book is super gay without saying it directly.

I was referring to spiritual analogies which many teachers read into it, such as Phineas's fall representing the "fall of man." People have also seen symbolism in "Moby Dick", the movie "Star Wars" and I've personally read books that discuss hidden meanings in the comic strip Peanuts, such as "The Parables of Peanuts" and "The Gospel According to Peanuts."

I think it's pushing it to refer to Phineas' fall from the tree, or his later fatal fall down the stairs, as a Biblical allusion. I think the book is largely straightforward: it is about jealousy, guilt, growing up during wartime, and being on the cusp of manhood.

Friendship, betrayal, knowing oneself might also be themes you could explore.

I think taking a Christian interpretation is a stretch... At most it's a parallel and isn't directly saying anything about religion or anything of the like. That is to say that if those things are referring to the Bible, they are simply being used to illustrate the broader themes of the book, the typical coming-of-age themes of identity and trust.
