Ya know, I'm not feeling bad to write another "what is your opinion of..." thread. There are a lot, but this one should fit in quite well then. I want to lump two authors together again.

I was looking for a book of Edmund Spenser's poetry at my library. I did this on recommendations of him on these forums. I have since started reading him, and, I want to say, that I love what I have read. Undoubtedly I miss things, but his poetry is, indeed, not too terribly difficult to read. I'm ordering a few books of his poetry (heavily footnoted) from amazon now.

Anyway, while I was looking for a book of his poetry I saw a few volumes of John Skelton. I was wondering what his reputation is. What do y'all think of him? There are a few poems of his in my anthology of poetry. I also want to ask, at the same time, why no one ever talks about George Meredith here (his poetry or prose). His reputation seems to be as good as that of Dickens or Hardy. But he seems to be unpopular. While I myself have read seven of Dickens novels and Four of Hardy's, I have only read The Ordeal of Richard Feverel by Meredith. I did remember to greatly enjoy it though.

By the way, I have read very, very little poetry. If Skelton is not to be recommended, what poet should I turn to after I finish reading the Faerie Queen (admittedly a very long way off because I know this one will take at least a few months for me to read). One of Spenser's near contemporaries or someone from roughly that time would be nice.
