THE “HUMAN(E)” CONUNDRUM

“Go to heaven for the climate and hell for the company”
Witty words by Twain, a few of the many
“But what of this earth?” did I sound uncanny?
And that’s when it struck-this blessed epiphany!

This ode thus brings forth the hideous truth
That even though we be far from uncouth
In bloodshed we seek a liniment to soothe
Our existence ensnared in a miserable booth.

“What booth?” you’d retort
And let out a snort with a storming cohort
I beg to purport, “There’s more to report!”
Best viewed from the eye of an absolute sport!

So ere we trudge down this memory lane
Let us arrange ourselves for the impending pain
For the facts could well cause a visible strain
And the mental faculty may suffer a drain.

Now the booth being referred to earlier on
Is the closeted mindset we so often don
That miserable blanket so willingly worn
To turn us stone-cold and others forlorn!

Yes we’ve thought and tested and invented galore
And taken those limits even further more
Not stopping to glance at the rising score
Of human folly and emotions sore.

And we’re busy connecting in the virtual space
Furtively preparing for every rat race
Hiding smirks behind the fake “smiley” face
True emotion fades into unassuming trace.

Yet the signs of the times were never so vivid
And interpersonal relations never so livid
With our collective conscience never so tepid
Transforming life’s joys into something insipid.

So cutting the pace and affording a pause
We might just stumble on that magical clause
That could liberate us and embolden our cause
Of rescuing humanity from the deathly gallows!

Enlightened we may therefore realize
That those dreaded demons we must all exorcise
Are hidden within our very own lies
Inflating egos to a colossal size!

So where does it lead to- this introspection?
And will it thereby consequence revolution?
My bet’s as good as your revelation
What’s certain is it may set off evolution!

An evolution not just of the mind, but compassion;
In a world so full of bitter dispassion
Breeding sensitivity with measured caution
Bringing conventional “humanity” back into fashion!

And thus coming back to the inaugural matter
Of heaven and hell- the former or latter?
Is a case which shall require unremitting chatter
And before your grey cells resound in a clatter
The “human(e)” conundrum we no more shall batter
Just a piece of advice held up on a platter
Our egos we must shred down to a tatter
Only then shall the earth go from rounder to flatter
Are we in heaven or hell? That’s for you to decipher!
