Greetings,

I've stumbled on this Forum from... Google? A thread on Byron's great comic epic Don Juan.

I'm creating an illustrated, audio e-book of Byron's epic satire, because I think it is the greatest neglected comic drama in all of english literature.

"Drama"? Well, yes. A very funny poem, masterfully crafted in 8-line stanzas with some of the canniest rhymes ever found. But it's also a performance by the ever-fascinating Byron in which his rather conflicted, generous, brilliant, promiscuous, abrupt and satirical natures all contend; with the poet, in a strikingly modern way, looking-on.

I'm doing this as a serial project. One Canto (of the sixteen) at a time. "Canto One", including Byron's scurrilous "Dedication" is available now from the Apple iBook store at this link http://is.gd/JIRLeu [Moderator: please remove the link if it's contrary to policy], for the iPad and the iPhone.

I'd REALLY appreciate some feedback from/interaction with some of the well-informed members of this Forum on this project. It's possibly an eccentric idea; Byron is rather neglected today.

Do you think Byron's best poetry can be rescued from the pious trivializing of Matthew Arnold and the "Leavisite" school of "high seriousness" in literature? Do you think, like I do, that Byron is the greatest satirist in English after Pope and, unlike Pope, is essentially "modern".

There's a free-sample of the book on the iBooks store that will give you some idea of the project, if you don't wish to buy. And there's a few snippets of the illustrations and audio on my website at MadBadDangerous.com.

Best wishes
