Having lived in that town
For at least fifty moons
Whistled its streets down
As though familiar tunes

The surprise came one day
Of that ivy covered house
At the end of Lonely Way
A waltz by Johann Strauss

One never heard before
Which should be known
A sudden drop of my jaw
The melody was blown

I looked left at the next
I knew it well to admire
But this one was hexed
Something odd and dire

The right I also recognised
Both the stories ringing true
But this new had disguised
Til appearing from the blue

Close my eyes, try to think
What had been there if not
This place, but memory sinks
Subtle nothing, perhaps a lot?

No no, not alot of nothing
Nor hole nor empty space
It was just not anything
Not a thing in its place

I peered at various details
To lodge distant memory
Mind must be off the rails
With that I made to flee

I did not look behind no
Only dead ahead, yes
I felt were I to do so
The balance it may redress

True story. About the house I'd never seen before I mean. I should have seen it a thousand times, but not once until that day. Strange.
