Sorry absolutely stink at war games - well as a Czech I wouldn't rely on old Chamberlain to protect me and since there were no representatives to negotiate on my people's behalf, then violence would win the day. This is a serious point. The channel Islands were occupied from 1940 to 1945. Some residents did manage to escape to mainaland Britain beforehand but a substantial number did not. For the most part they had little option than to cooperate with a bad grace. Inevitably, some were more enthusiastic in this cooperation than others, but very few. However, there was practically no active resistance. Obviously, the resident population here was very small and the occupying presence overwhelming. Some telephone lines were cut and a handful of people managed to escape by boat to England, which annoyed the German Commandant a bit.

There was a concentration/slave labour camp on Alderney.

Once mass organised military resistance becomes impracticable through the defeat and destruction of the armed forces, and when this is followed by occupation, the majority of the population just try to stay alive. However, there were contingency plans that if Britain was invaded there were networks of undergound resitance cells in place, who were tasked with assassinating political figures who collaborated and generally being nasty to the Germans by blowing them up where ever they could. These resistance units were basically recognised as being suicide squads. Given the history of reprisal which occured in response to resistance activity on mainland Europe, one wonders how much support the British resistance would have recieved from its own countrymen. I suspect the pattern would have been the same as in France, Greece, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Holland, etc.

True. True. I am always slightly surprised, but only slightly, that an fair amount of women slept with the occupiers (even in the channel islands) within a year or so. Kind of makes one think that security and power and access to goods and services are really damn important. They were not starving but knocking boots with nazis got ya a bunch of luxury goods. (unfortunately the shaved head look after the war sucked).
