Book Recommendation(s).

I'm quite picky when it comes to books. However, recently I've grown a fascination for fantasy and adventure, but I'm having a tough time trying to find a book that fits to my liking. So any recommendation will help, though I do not want any romance in the book whatsoever and I would like for it to have a dark setting.

Gormenghast is fabulous, much better than Lord of the Rings and The House on the Borderland is fairly dark.
