here they come
shuffling, ruffling
from dank alleys

dangling tongues
pendulous arms
goobly eyes
greasy spaghetti hair
bloody rags

stink cloud forewake
purest putrescence
wave of dead filth

dull texture of
breathless groans

staggering through
the shopping mall
listening for signs:
a squeaky shoe
bottle breaking

they can't run
but nor
do they tire

don't slip on the wax!

get to the fire escape
heart pounds
this is good
you're still alive

stealth is best
over to the gun store
grab a twelve gauge
and a cache of shot

run for your life
but conserve ammo

it's going to be a long night

reach a manhole

in the sewer
build a fort
light the torch

check traps

check flammables

check tin can alarms

check shells are high and dry

it's going to be a long night

Hey, I'm a massive fan of the zombie genre. I quite like your poem. Sometimes, when I start reading a poem, I want to stop after the first few verses because it bores me, but with yours, it just made me want to go on.
Go on
Keep running
They don't tire
So don't you!

I love it, reminds me of "Married with zombies"

Love your work. Seriously. But--
Yr ol' auntie is tired of reading about zombies, vampires, werewolves, and
sundry. The topics have been --you should excuse the expression --"done to death."

Thanks Aunty :)

I was never really much for zombies either - but the idea of The Antithetic Horde started to grow on me.

I like Dark Muse's Vampires and Werewolves; I don't really go in for reading or watching them on the silver screen though

It can be easy to get caught up in thinking about ways to survive a zombie apocalypse, and there's some classic MystyrMystyry-flavored ideas here (e.g. the waxed floor, in particular). I'll keep my own ideas to myself, for now--but here's some that The Economist pointed me to this evening:

Definitely: whatever you write, it has your mystyr-signature. And I always enjoy reading you, MM!

Thanks Billl. What a link, and competition. The portable protection looks almost feasible, and the others almost serviceable - but not quite to my taste. I'd like a spacious castle with invisible force field (and central air conditioning).

Thankyou Bar22do :)

Right back at you!
