So I float about
in the background
like the orange lava lamp
that your sentimental sister
picked up at a car boot sale
and placed in your office
while I remain pressed
between boxes of projects
one leg hitched in hope
with you who has way
too many things to do
and I would love to help
if you'd only give a little,
burst forth,
produce my work
or even introduce me
to your friends
who have never heard of me.

Interesting. I can only assume we are hearing the voice of some inanimate object, what I further assume to be an artistic endeavor, and than what I further further assume to be a writing assignment? I liked the sparseness of punctuation because when punctuation was actually used to set "burst forth" off from the rest of the poem it really gave that little line emphasis, and I assume the artwork wants to be realized, not by the artwork necessarily, but by the artist, even though he/she doesn't realize it. And we know he really doesn't realize it, since this object is relegated to the same space and level of importance as a frivolous lava lamp.

That being said, I liked it. I think it perfectly reflects the situation of many artists. I know it does for me, having ideas in the back of my head that I just never get around to for one reason or another. It makes you wonder how many undiscovered (and when I say "undiscovered," I don't mean famously so, just people who will never create something that they could've) artists are out there.

Thanks MM. That's a very considered, insightful review.

Yes it was rather, Mutatis.

I was going to suggest it displays the helplessness of the artist/author in the act of creation, the personality taking a backseat as the work creates itself and we become relegated to a medium for its transport/birth.

Well done either way Delta! :)
