On the tomato-stained pizza boxes,
On the crumpled burger wrappers
I dumped under the worn-out table,
I hid under the flea-infested bed,
I saw the ethereal faces of angels,
The shadows of ghosts and demons.

The cherubs cried their lonely songs,
The older ones begged and told me
To stop, to take a rest, to go to bed,
The hominal beasts, the silhouettes,
Black, indistinguishable, prodded me
Not to listen, urged me to continue.

I cleaned my mess, tidied my clutter
For seven hours but still not done,
With tweezers I pulled the fat fleas,
Burned them all with scented candles
As the angels, the demons, my self
On the walls watched me hit the pipe.
