Between The Sand And The Stars

A dead bird lay on the beach
without ceremony no casket prepared
but a feast for the flies

maybe I'll say a few words
for this little soul I believe it deserves as much I do
dig it a grave I've heard that
they say death is not to be feared
only to die in a shameful way

to be bloated and rotting is such a case
where ashamed of death in the open
but under the dirt it is dark and it is cold
and the bugs will find you there too

so just to save face they say dig it a grave because I hear it's a bit closer to God

though between the sand and the stars
within reach of the waves
there could be no better place
to rest my head on my final day

because fool ourselves as we may
it is proven the same for human or beast
we were never much more then a feast for the flies
so I'll listen to the tide and gently close my eyes
and please don't deny me of that
