I remember studying this either in freshmen literature or highschool.
It was in a setting of a war torn area, possibly WW2. The idea was a sort of desensitized almost denial of the tragedy around the person speaking.

Maybe it is "No News from Auschwitz" that I am thinking about and I'm just focusing on the irony and denial in the last line?
"There is nothing new to report about Auschwitz. It was a sunny day and the trees were green and at the gates the children played."

does anybody know of a poem told in similar style? But more of a first person account of everyday life in a war-torn zone, that kind of downplays in a desensitized way the issues they face, and where the speaker has a mundane type of tone where you see how he's been forced for so long to accept it that tragedy no longer has it's full impact??

I acknowledge that it may not even exist.. lol but if it does maybe you are the right crowd to help me find it?

Not what you're looking for but the brilliant, and Scottish, Charles Hamilton Sorley strikes that kind of tone in 'When you see millions of the mouthless dead'. It's a poem that continually astonishes me.
