I GET SERIOUSLY MAD

Yes, seriously.

I've had a bad row of books that could have been way better. I don't mean REALLY bad books, or else I would have stopped reading. But they had good ideas, potential to make a great literary work, but I guess they skipped on dinner one of those days and the whole caboodle got messed up.

I wouldn't discuss them here (already did in a blog) but I created this thread to discuss such books.

SUBJECT: Bad books written by good authors

I'm sure these things happen from time to time, and not with just a selected few but all authors suffer from it.

What could be the cause? Inability to convey the desired meaning/outcome behind the story to the reader? Bad (doubt it) skills? Wrong readers targeted?

What do you guys think?

And while we're at it, why not share a couple of books we thought were great, or at least heard/had high hope for, but turned us down?

The first hurdle that any writer meets is getting an agent, they are naturally cautious about what they take on board but the number of great writers who were repeatedly turned down by agents is legendary. Any manuscripts forwarded to a publisher by an agent will, if accepted, then have to be edited by a proof reader.
All of this is in the melting pot now that Amazon has taken up on line publishing via Kindle.
