Peter and Hook are the same person, i.e. Hook is what Peter will become if he ever grows up sorry about the misquote, but it's something like this...Narator (aka JMB)..Peter threw the Pirates into confusion by impersonating Hook...he is so good at this, sometimes even I can't tell the difference" That is why they are in eternal conflict, Peter trying to defeat his future, and Hook trying to bury his childhood.

You're wrong. Watch Hook - you'll find out why he couldn't grow up - its the magic of Neverland. He could only grow up when he fell in love with Wendy and left Neverland to be in the real world.

While of course none of us truly know why it is that Peter Pan does not grow old, I am inclined to disagree with the above statement that it is the magic of the Neverland that keeps him young. Fabulous film though it was, Hook was written entirely separately from J.M. Barrie's works, and there are many conflicts between it and the original story. Also, in the Neverland, where growing up was against Peter's rules, we know that it was indeed possible to do so. At one point in the novel the narrator explains that whenever a lost boy seemed to be growing up, Peter would kill him (as I said, it was against the rules). It's a very interesting question to speculate on, though, isn't it?

First, as much as I love the movie HOOK, please do not use it to explain why he never grew up. HOOK is not the story of Peter Pan. Peter does not grow up because he does not want to. There is no explanation really. Or perhaps that is only fear: being a man, grappling with feelings like love, loss, loneliness. And he alone among all people has figured out a way to escape it by creating a place where can remain forever a boy. Really, there is no answer. Peter is a riddle truly. I do like the idea Graham put for from a literary criticism perspective: hook burying his childhood, Peter escaping his adult self. Interesting, though I assure you Peter and Hook would deny it all. ur both wrong. peter is what hook used to be before he grew up - this is why he resents peter so much. And Peter was only able to grow up because he fell in love with wendy, who grew up, then jane, wendy's daughter, who also grew up, and then wendy's grandaughter, so he decided to leave neverland and grow up with her, to save losong yet another love. and in answer to the first question, peter won't grow up because he was abandoned by his mother, and was resentful of this, therefore did not want to grow up and become someone like her, then, over time, he forgot this, but had made such a big thing about never growing up that he stayed out of principal (and stubbornness).

Sorry... not to sound rude ;-)..... and it will sound rude... but... all of you are wrong. In the original novel, Peter Pan told Wendy in the nursery that the day he was born, "I heard my father and mother discussing what I was to be when I became a man. I want always to be a little boy and to have fun! So I ran away and I've lived a long time among the fairies." First off, it's obviously impossible to run away the very day you're born, (but, in actuality, people can't really fly to a make-believe island; you just have to believe!) And, second off, if Peter went to NeverLand the day he was born, and you don't grow up in NeverLand, then how is Peter the little boy he is now? Wouldn't he have remained an infant? Like I said, it's just a classic childrens' story, and the mysterious magic of it is good to have.

Peter Pan is a story beloved by everyone. He's known as the boy who wouldn't grow up. But, why? That question is not ever really answered, ever. But, seriously, every real fairytale believer sits near their window one time ro another and looks out for the brightest star in the night sky and looks for Peter Pan, who's flying around with Tinkerbelle at his side, searching for a window where he could listen to their stories as the children are being put to bed. Tonight, wait......and maybe Peter will pear near your window!<br>Love ya!!!
