I also heard that the hospital held the copyright to the original play. As far as im aware they do not hold the copyright for the book. BUT in the editions published in 1965 (one of which i am the proud owner!) all of the ROYALTIES from the book went to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London.

I am intrigued by your assertion that Great Ormond Street Hospital only owns a "perpetual copyright to the performance". Perhaps you would be kind enough to refer me to the relevant legislation and/or statutes that you believe confirm your assertion?

Certainly the 1911 book is considered public domain in the United States (and various other territories) but it should perhaps be said that by publishing from the US by the medium of the internet you are not helping the hospital to receive royalty payments in those countries where copyright subsists.

I do not doubt your creditable intention is to spread great literature as widely as possible, but the aims of a concern raising millions of pounds each year to improve children's health worldwide could be better served.

I look forward to hearing from you.
<<Does anyone know who owns the rights to James Barrie's works? Is it still <<under copyright? I heard that he gave the rights to a children's hospital, <<so that everyone could enjoy his work. Is this true?
<< Our Response: If it's on this site it is out of copyright.

Wrong you are! the copyright is held by The Great Ormand Street Hospital for Sick Children in London and they actively pursue copyright violoations. By publishing on the net you are taking food from the mouths of sick children. Hope you feel good about yourselves!

Our Response - Do your homework before you make accusations. That hospital owns a perpetual copyright to the performance of the play by a special act of the British Parliament. I do not see any performers do you?
