View Full Version : Sundays: Aye or Nay?

I don't like Sundays simply because I never get to spend them the way I would like to.
On my ideal Sunday, I would not be required to make an effort to look "presentable", leave the house apart from a leisurely stroll in the park or a beach, do any household chores or worry about the work-week ahead but simply spend the day reading books and newspapers, listening to music, watching a movie or cooking for pleasure.
Instead, they are usually a blur of last minute shopping, laundring, ironing and general housework.
No doubt, by more careful planning I might attain some part of that idlylic Sunday mood but, so far, I have not been able to.
How would you like your Sundays? How are they now?

I dislike Sundays, I mostly spend them getting ready for the week ahead and dreading work.
I only enjoy Sundays when I am not in work the next day, then I can spend it with friends, drinking coffee and reading newspapers & books

It depends, I just came home from work so now I like Sundays cause I have the 'weekend' off. I'm not working tomorrow but if you had asked last Sunday or next week I would have said nay.
Aye today for me.
My ideal Sunday would probably be with my boy hanging out and playing or alone reading and doing things I enjoy..
I am a big planner so housework and stuff like that never ends up on my weekend list, I am always off during the weekend.
Today I am gonna enjoy the fact that I have the evening to do nothing! that is my list, nothing and a movie.

Sunday is usually housework day, which actually makes a nice change from academic work. There is something refreshingly mechanical about scrubbing a bath tub...

Aye. These days I spend the Sunday mornings down at the allotment shop serving compost and carrying stuff to cars for people and joshing the other guys. Great fun. Then there's a no pressure afternoon. Yay!

Sunday is usually house cleaning day however I would like to rearrange the schedule to get the housework done during the week.

Sunday is fantastic until about 3 in the afternoon. At that time, I realize the weekend is coming to a close, and I begin to think about how I will have to get prepared for the workweek, and then I become very SAD with this anticipation of Monday morning.

Well, my days off are monday and tuesday, so for me sunday is basically friday. I'm only awake for an hour and a half of it, since I get up at 10:30 pm (well, my evening before is actually Sunday morning I guess, which would be like a Thursday night for regular people). So, it's just a regular day.

For me it's aye.
I was raised Christian, so I still have that No-work-on-Sundays mindset (in a way). So usually I clean and launder on Saturdays. Then on Sunday mornings I will either go buy groceries or have the car washed or do nothing. Mind, I don't see buying groceries as work because I like doing it, heh.
Late morning I go to my parents for an afternoon braai, nap, watching the F1 (if it's on) and then watching the 8 'o clock movie. I try to fit in some reading before the nap, but usually only manage about 20 minutes, max.
That being said, I'm not opposed to cleaning or working on Sunday if it's necessary...I just prefer doing all that on a Saturday. It feels weird if I'm home on a Saturday morning and I'm not doing some cleaning or the like.

When I was a kid and when my own children were younger, I really dreaded Sundays, they meant long mornings at church. As the pastor's family, we were the first ones there and the last ones to leave. It seemed to me we were there forever when in fact it was probably only a couple hours. When my children were small, I taught Sunday School for many years to keep them company or they never would have agreed to go. Then they started Confirmation, so I became a Confirmation mentor and church attendance was mandatory. :p Not that I didn't enjoy it, I grew up in the church and have always felt comfortable in that setting so I can't say it was all misery but I can tell you how good it feels, now that both boys are confirmed and I'm on my own, to sleep in and lounge on Sunday mornings. I still have this child-like glee at the thought that I'm getting away with something. It has now become one of my favorite days of the week. :wink5:

Sundays mornings are spent planning for the week ahead (work and family meals). Hate it, but keeps things moving smoothly!

As a child, I loved Sundays because the whole family would spread around the living room and spend the day reading newspapers or watching movies on TV.
It is a very gloomy day here today. Makes me wish I was a bear napping in a cave (not only lookswise) but have to face the world, *gasp* even worse, the people.

I have a crappy lawnmower and I need to mow the lawn in a few stages so I was gonna finish today but it started raining. I was so very happy!!
It has been around 17°c for a few days and I just hate it. the rain poured down straight, it never does that on the ice there is always wind too but not today.
I am very happy at the moment so this Sunday is very good.
