I'm working on the sins. There are like 45 of them. Never mind.

What is pride, that is an interesting question. The inability to say I'm wrong and I'm sorry is part of it. There's more. We are encouraged to have pride, but admonished against the wrong type. How do we tell one from the other? Example, pride in your appearance is not a bad thing. It's good. But to be so proud that you cannot admit your stupidity is another.

I'm confused about the meaning of pride. It is not always a bad thing. It's not conceit. It may be helpful as a person struggles through this life. It may be harmful too, when it gets in the way.

My brother-in-law shared an example of pride the other day. He has dated a woman on and off for the last twenty years. She lives in Spain, so he goes over there to visit her twice a year, when they are getting along. He always comes back to the states complaining to my husband about her "Spanish" pride. My husband's father is from Spain. The example involves her cooking. My brother-in-law asked her to use less salt, because of his diet. She replied to him that her father said you need salt and she won't reduce the salt. She told him it is good for him. I believe she was hurt that he complained about her cooking. Pride held her back from being able to listen to him and yield to his needs. I can't really blame the girl, because I get upset when my cooking is insulted too. This is an example, in which her repeated pride keeps her from having a deeper relationship with my brother-in-law.
