funny the way
some things
just happen for
no given reason
defying explanation
even plausibility

like this morning
for instance
when i was
strolling along
and suddenly
with no warning

me head

dropped

off

just like that

and seeing as
me brains was
in it at the time
it meant
it was me

what

dropped

onto the

footpath

but as i wasn't
connected
i had no
control
over me
body's big
stupid feet

which kept
walking
and kicked
me
far ahead
if you'll
forgive the
expression

well the world
was spinning
round and round
as i rolled along
and i thought
at first
i hope nobody
sees me

but then
of course
i quickly
changed
me tune
as i
freewheeled
down a hill

came
to a thud
in a
leafy
pumpkin patch

listened for
footsteps

was me body
even
searching
for me
i wondered

maybe it was
happy not
having to answer
to anybody
but itself

i wished it
would hurry
if it was
looking
because i'd
collected
some muck
in me eye
irritating
and me nose

itched

it was dark
under
the leaves
but it was
starting to
get darker
still

oh no
i didn't want
to spend
the night
out in the open

with the insects

biting insects
at that

and me
with no hands
to shoo
'em away

not much
i was
going to
be able
to about
it though

bugger

i tried to
sleep but
it wouldn't
come

i was hoping
maybe i was
in a dream

i mean apart
from me eye
and me nose
i couldn't
feel anything

although
the eye and
the nose
were fairly
major
discomforts

but then i
remembered

tomorrow

was the
pumpkin
festival

somebody'd
be along
soon enough
and pick me

up

everything'
was going
to be fine

it's just the
immediate
future that
would pose
a problem

i mean i
couldn't
talk to
describe
what my
body
looked like
so in a
lineup
i wouldn't
be able to
identify
it

i wouldn't
even be able
to nod

i guess we'd
work out
some kind
of morsecode
blinking
arrangement

or just once
for yes
twice
for no

but me body
could be
miles away
by now

a whole
other
county

hmmm

Deceptively brilliant MM. Now take out all those line breaks and allow it to be the fantastical short story that it is :D
cheers

Delightful and I like the dripping lines I think they go well with the subject. You should read Etgar Keret, too. To be confident your art is not less. What a story! I almost lost me head.

Etgar Keret you say Bar22do? I'll be sure to look him up

Glad you enjoyed it :)

Moreover, Slawomir Mrozek speculated about the subject in his Journals (circa 1963) though more modest and with political sub-context (in communist Poland)!

Not only do you have a brilliant sense of humor but also a boundless imagination. You're going to be a star!

Thanks Aunty

I don't know about 'star' - not really in my game plan. I just write them to amuse myself and keep out of trouble. It's nice that other people enjoy them.

I have a commercial webspace (under a different name) where I sell pictures, but rarely get any feedback - and a few lines of feedback here is far more rewarding than the sales I get there*

*except of course the latter means I can buy myself occasional presents ;)

I am so thankful for this great laugh you gave me. Today was a bugger, if I used that correctly. This was brilliant writing and the timing guided by the line breaks, no less so that the comedy of it.

When you can make a totally unbelievable and impossible event believable, you know you've got the touch. Keep rollin'

I found your head where your legs could not! (look into my album "Heads" or follow the link if I got it right), with its waggish gaze!
