Hay could anyone help me figure out who said this line, its from a really good poem, and all i can remember is the opening line.
"I wish I could turn and live with the animals..."[/quote]

Hi, Firestarter. Your quote reminds me the lyrics of one of Savage Garden's song, "The Animal Song". Sorry, but I just had to post this, though it's not (or is it?) literature-related.

hay jay, thank you for your reply, but i do know of the song that you are talking about and it is not what i am talking about. The little part that i was wanting to know about is a poem from some man, but its really killing me that i cant seem to find out who it is. but thanks again ;)

Hi firestarter

I think the poem you are thinking of is Walt Whitmans' Song of Myself:

"I think I could turn and live with animals, they're so placid and self contain'd,
I stand and look at them long and long.

They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied, not one is demented with the mania of owning things,
Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago,
Not one is respectable or unhappy over the earth.
