Beef Wellington and a feather boa
A table for two with a tragedy
Lip gloss and a pearl necklace

Pouring the pinot
Dry like her skin
She winks
Cigarette ash collapses

A gravy stain on my shirt
Throbbing vein in my temple
A blues band who woke up this morning

Two sodden book ends
We dance
She bleeds mascara
I paint patterns on her cheeks

A cabbie not speaking English
The scent of sick and leather
An apartment and a bed

Sliding underwear
She falls
Outlined by burns
She sighs as I slip away

Fresh air and lamplights
Foxes and bins
Sunrise and a cast of chimneys

The Churchbell rues the time
A distant train
Strains coal
On down the line

Bakerman and bread
Puddles and mirrors
The dew and the gulls

A moon in the blue
Displaced in time
A man not there
Small boy left behind

I swear I hear crickets in the Poetry forum tonight/this morning.

Enjoyed very much. Many evocative lines.

This stanza stood out for me:

We dance
She bleeds mascara
I paint patterns on her cheek

I think this would work as a spoken word piece. The stream-of-consciousness style is nice, but it seems to rely too much on descriptions of images. And I didn't understand the ending.

I read a dinner for two which doesn't feel right; sex that doesn't feel right; a following morning that doesn't feel right; and a finale of loneliness and bad memories.

I love it.
