There has never been and there will never be an album more perfect than BoT. There is no god so Dylan made a human one out of lyrics and Vestapol tuning. BoT is the be all end all. There is one exception to this: the first unreleased recording of the album before Dylan re-did it. The unreleased album is the god of the god.




Btw, really like Dylan's album BoT. Leo Kottke has a story he tells about meeting Dylan when he was recording the first version of the album in Minneapolis- he had no idea who he had been speaking to until a couple of decades later (Kottke is amazing in his own right! Too much awesomeness!).

It is wonderful, and truly original. I would like to see Tom Verlaine, but I don't know if that would ever happen.

21 by Adele are on my list. 21's songs are quite mediocre but Adele's vocal performance on this album is absolutely unbelievable.

Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room by Caro Emerald. Such an amazingly amazing album.

Back to Basics by Christina Aguilera. I'm a huge fan of Christina and a again the vocal performance on this album is inhuman.

I Am ... Sasha Fierce by Beyonce, the best album by my favorite artist.

I'm sure lots of people won't agree with these albums but this is my opinion.

I loves me some Pink Floyd even though that particular album is overrated beyond belief. I like the Beatles - white album, sgt. Peppers, and revolver. I also like anything by iron maiden (with a slight prejudice against their later stuff) but seventh son of a seventh son was stellar.

Dark side of the Moon was best album of the 70's, but my favorite, Peter Gabriel's eponymous debut, is only something like no 51 in 1977, which I find just plain bizarre! :eek6:

I don't know if these are going to stand up to objective scrutiny as The Best, but they're the ones I return to time after time and consistently re-listen to. This is not an exhaustive list, but just off the top of my head:

I agree with you about Appetite For Destruction.

I can't agree with you about Led Zeppelin though. IV Led Zeppelin has Stairway to Heaven, but Houses of the Holy has No Quarter, D'yer M'aker and Over the Hills and Far Away. In addition, the album artwork is more interesting. Finally, Led Zeppelin - I has Dazed and Confused, and Led Zeppelin III has Tangerine and Immigrant Song. So, I will never be able to decide about Led Zeppelin.

For Metallica, I would have chosen either Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets. The Black Album was the beginning of the end for me, though I can still deal with certain tracks from the Black Album, Load, Re-load and Garage Inc. But in my world, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets are the best of Metallica and the ones I would reach for first.

No comment on Lynard Skynard. I will tolerate "That Smell" but only because it's a good thing to have as the text message notification sound or ringtone on your cell phone. This allows for indirect griping about cubicle farts at work. See, how it works is that when someone farts at work, you take out your phone and "sample" your "That Smell" ringtone after the funk has wafted over to your cubicle

I don't have much to say about Def Leppard. When I was 10 or 11, Pour Some Sugar on Me was one of the top music videos on Dial MTV. I've heard Hysteria, but not much from Pyromania. Pyromania is probably better than Hysteria but I wouldn't know. I can't imagine that Pyromania could be worse than what they released after Hysteria.

As far as Motley Crue goes, I can't say that Dr. Feelgood is better than Girls Girls Girls. I can't say that it's worse either. My interest in Motley Crue came about because I heard Nikki Sixx speak and I decided that I must listen to any music that he had a part in creating, and that interest was limited to Girls Girls Girls and Dr. Feelgood. And I still wasn't too wild about the song Girls Girls Girls and the accompanying video. :sick:

I guess what got my attention about your post was the Metallica choices. Just curious about those.

I have some 18,000 songs on my computer ranging from jazz to classical to rock, folk electronic. I am really into progressive rock. My deal is there tons more creative original bands. A lot of The Beatles lyrics are really stupid. Hendrix had some stupid lyrics too but at least he was good at guitar. I don't think they were great musicians either. I've been digging Johnny Cash lately and Richie Havens. Last FM is a great tool. I found many great bands through Last FM

My friend lent me a CD by this band Mumford and Sons, Sigh No More. It is their first album. They have been nominated and won several awards. When you listen to the music you can understand why. Their lyrics have a poetic edge, although slightly cliched, at times. However, when the lyrics are juxaposed (sp???) the music, you will find an epic sound that is both hopeful and melancholic. I suppose this is why they are, in part, classified as a folk rock band.
