View Full Version : Sneezes

What matters so much is
whether I sneeze into a tissue
or into the autumn air
where the cats pricks their ears
and through sleepy eyes
watch the globules of spray
travel across their world.
They stretch each time,
purr,
then rub themselves against me
like a loving audience.
Contained in a tissue,
they miss the spontaneity,
the sudden burst,
the release of my insides.
Snubbed by cats?
Never!
So I don't get to study
the contents,
to poke through them
that I might one day understand
how a sneeze is made
and I don't want to give my tissue
to the dogs.

Nice allegory about writing. I'm not sure if my reading is correct. The one-word lines are effective in terms of sound and sense.

Thanks Miyako. I'm thinking I might take a break from poetry.

Don't. Force yourself not to stop. I'm too weak not to yield with mine. I know for people who don't create, they can't understand the torment of that very emotion they deny. I can write strange poems using my mind not my "heart." The result: very mechanical.

First of all, nice little poem. Got me thinking about sneezing, aah cheww, and it's very understandable you need a break from poetry.

You said
I said
this
all before,
that
I forgot
I said
it.
What is
this
that
or
it?

Sometimes a break is a good thing Delta, to recharge and stuff, but somehow I can't see you slowing down. The fascinating and intriguing Delta quirks were missed sorely last time.
As to this particular one, is it the season of colds so soon? I got one from the supermarket and by the time I'd arrived home it had taken control - already at the onset of delirium phase. Fortunately I'd bought some garlic to scare away the vampires, and it works equally well on viruses. One garlic sandwich and I was cured.
Miyako's observation that it's about writing seems like it may well be - the fits and starts that happen in unexpected moments perhaps?
