(This is my first attempt at short story writting, all kinds of suggestions are welcome)

Ruffled hair, twinkling eyes and an innocent smile, he was a young boy in his early teens, who deserved a second look. He knew he had changed a lot in the past few years, he no longer felt the need for toys and he was having these thoughts and dreams, that made him realize that its more important to be remembered and respected, than earn a lot of money. Uncertainity and doubts had also started to take a fair share of his young mind, making what he thought possible a few years back, impossible. He used to pray every day to god to take away this feeling which clouded his mind.

Girls had begun to fascinate him, ocasionally one or two had stared at him . He had wanted to ask them out, call it fear or a voice in his head, he was never able to do it. Even the other day, he had seen this beautiful girl in his school, she had smiled at him, he wanted to go and talk to her, but it just didnt happen.

He had recently started to watch stars, he knew there was something quite mysterious about them. Some are bright, some dull some are there night after night and some slipping into obscurity the very next night, but still they were all twinkling!. Every night was different, it was as if someone was redecorating the skies just for him to stay interested, and just as to show his appreciation he made sure not to miss the grand spectacle. He had heard his brother say, they were uncountable, but on most days he was able to number all of them before he had felt drowsy. He had once tried to convince his brother that they were infact coutable, but he got the reply that he was not looking close enough. He always wanted to say to him that it was he who was not looking close enough and that on somedays he could swear that they talked to him.

Night time was always a welcome relief for him, once the sun had set, he felt his troubles for the day were over and this was one of those nights, he felt, had justified all his thougts. Lying on his back, he found the stars to be grandly rearranged and twinkling with all their splendour. Once again just as if to prove his brother wrong yet again, he started counting the stars. That night was not one of those easy nights, when he would finish up counting as soon as he had begun, and went on to contemplate their mysterious twinkling. A few were hardly visible, some were quite familiar, some were mundane but that one seemed to have a unaturally beautiful aura around it. He felt as though he had known it for a long time, though infact he was pretty certain he had never seen it before. He felt as though 'she' was beckoning him towards 'her'. 'She'?,he knew it didnt make sense, but deep down he had this feeling that he was right.

The more he thought about it, the more he felt she was getting closer to him. Even though her radiance was blinding, he could still make out her form. He could only gasp at her beauty as his eyes made sense of her exhilarating brilliance. He stood transfixed, as she moved closer to him. For no reason whatsoever, he felt extremely happy and content in her presence. A myriad of thoughts crossed his mind, but instead of asking her anything, he ended up on his knees. He was sure he could feel her breath as she stopped in front of him. As she reached out to him, he closed his eyes, her touch was nothing like what he expected. He felt her energy flow through him washing away the fear and uncertainities in his mind. Feeling confident, he slowly opened his eyes wanting to talk to this divine lady (a realisation, which he thought was true). As his dazed eyes adjusted to the darkness of the night,he looked around, she had gone, just as she had appeared out of no where. He looked up at the skies, the stars were twinkling just as they were oblivious to what happened around them.

That night he slept, a bit confused but happy and content that he was going to wake up to the first christmas of the millenium. Little did he know that the star he saw that night was Aludra and light takes 2000 years to reach him from there. The next day at school, he saw that girl again, he asked her name. She similed and waked towards him.
