I need a reference for a newsletter. Apparently Hawthorne wrote in his notebook something like: "A man does something wrong...and must wear a letter denoting it." Of course this was before the publishing of the Scarlet Letter. <br> <br>Does anyone know the exact reference? How long before the novel was written was it entered in the notebook? etc.<br>Thanks. <br><br>
