Your pulling,
The strength of a falling leaf
Lifeless in the thinning May air,
Of my hands
Stilly quiet like a halved smile
Or a cry of a covered face;
And Your lifting,
The touch of a goose feather
Peeking out of the pillow's hole,
Of my chin
As tight as the clinging of skin
To flesh and wobbly bones
Mend
my teeth-nibbled arthritic wings
Of tarred filters ashed and grey
And teach again
My fingers their slow uncurling
And my mouth its smoked circles.
The strength of a falling leaf
Lifeless in the thinning May air,
Of my hands
Stilly quiet like a halved smile
Or a cry of a covered face;
And Your lifting,
The touch of a goose feather
Peeking out of the pillow's hole,
Of my chin
As tight as the clinging of skin
To flesh and wobbly bones
Mend
my teeth-nibbled arthritic wings
Of tarred filters ashed and grey
And teach again
My fingers their slow uncurling
And my mouth its smoked circles.
