I'm currently confused with one section of this magnificent Greek tragedy.

Antigone associates herself with the Bride of Hades, or in this case, Persephone. However, I'm terribly confused why there is a comparison between the two. I can't seem to find the significance of it.

Initially, a watchman compared Antigone to a mother-bird. Antigone has also compared herself to Niobe, which I am able to pick up faster because Niobe is indeed a mother who blinds her own two sons. On the other hand, in the Bride of Hades section, I do not understand why she associates herself with Persephone rather than Demeter if she wants to continue the maternal imagery, which is again ironic considering that she will never be one as she will be married to Death first.

Thanks for your help!
