<br>Hawthorne, from the beginning of this novel (among others) through the use of weaving his words creates a dark and gloomy tale. Evidently to remain dark and gloomy as the characters develop into evil, manipulative, hopeless creatures. It is quite amazing that through Hawthorne's word usage he was able to illustrate such a vivid look into the lives of the puritan men and women. Yes, i do agree that it drew on and on and people with a short attention span could miss the important sentences, but the book lead an insite into the deep feelings of Hester and Dimmesdale, even thoug h Pearl still remains somewhat of a mistery. I enjoyed this book thoroughly even though it was drawn out. It defined the Morality of that time period and the evil among the villagers.
