Eugene Polley, the inventor of the remote control, has died today aged just 96.

The youngster's idea has saved countless milleniums of human power reserves by allowing us to switch channels from the comfort of our sofas and warm beds.

Thankyou Eugene Polley - you will be sadly missed.

96? Those were some good batteries.

Just the act of getting off the couch and changing stations/adjusting volume, etc. was at least movement. I wonder how much collective weight gain he's caused.

Shoot, I used to be the remote before there was remotes. Aunt, Uncle, Grandparents, parents always used to make me get up to change the channels. Then again there was only five at the time. Those UHF were a *****.
