white lines
over downtown
spreading into
chemical haze
white lines
on a mirror
rising up
in euphoria
smoking meth
off tin foil
in Kentucky,
in Oklahoma
as the Twin Towers fall over and over again,
as Fox News rewinds the tape
the needle hits a vein,
a slow parade of media lies
another sacrifice
for the Drug War,
a two party system
of incarceration
always room for one more
on the inside
the CIA
pushing
in the crack,
the meth, HIV
into the horizon,
into the heart
of human consciousness
as Mexico burns,
as Colombia burns
as the rainforest dies,
and the animals scream
even God looks down
and says, "It's time."
the natural world watches,
waiting it's turn

paradoxical, I will try to comment on the poem later, but just know that it's stated in the rules that if you want to post more than one poem per day you should post them both in the same thread so as to give other poets/poems a greater chance of being read.

This is powerful stuff. I really like the way the way you insert things into the system, the body,in conjunction with the image of drug-use here. I guess this is inspired by the news of CIA drug dealings and government hypocrisy, as well as a media-inspired climate of fear creating more and more problems.
Thanks and welcome, traveller

Your poem reminds me of the Rodriquez song Establishment Blues. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_7u06P3ebU
only rewritten a whole two generations later.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I was in a rage when I wrote this, after reading an article about the incarceration system in America and how it is run for profit.

Thank you, Delta. I had never heard this song this song before. It's righteous stuff.

Welcome paradoxical, it's a powerful, "engaged" poem. Enjoyed.
