things that do not add up

I am looking for examples or real life experiences where you had thought that somethind did not add up.
Itmight have been something you have noticed, read or been told. Maybe a story or a book you read or a place you visited.

An equivalent of a story would be the Plato story of Atlantis and yet nothing has been found that is remotely like Plato describes.
That would be a script that does not add up?!

One of the things which has nagged at me, is the fact that one of the common theories I have heard has a possible source of the unicorn myth is that it may have been a narwhal.

The problem I have with this is the fact unicorns are traditionally understood to be horse like creatures with horns, while the narwhal is a type of whale living in the ocean, and the people who lived in the time when there was a common belief in unicorns would be very familiar with horses, and use horses as an important part of their daily lives. So even if they had no idea what a narwhal was, it seems unlikely to me, that upon seeing this creature swimming in the ocean they would then equate that as being some sort of equine creature.
