It occurs to me that this eminent science fiction television series may in fact be a mere remake of The Love Boat.

Proof as follows:

Capt Picard - who could it be but Capt Stubing?

Number 1 - who could it be but Gopher?

Data - who could it be but the wise Doc?

The only comparison you can make is that they were both ships.
