Has anyone been watching this? Just curious about your reactions, whether you're familiar with the original books or not and how it comes across.

Personally I much prefer the books, as they're the both the source and comfortably familiar like a favorite old settee. But would Douglas have approved of this production?

Virtually only the title character remains along with assorted scant set pieces from the novels - but he was also an advocate of alterations in different media. He said something like: 'You've already heard the radio show - would you really want to read it as an exact script?'

So perhaps had he a hand in it it would have been an even looser adaptation, but who can say?

[Also there are audiobooks of the author reading the original books if you're interested - recommended! - as well as full cast dramatisations]

I thought it was quite good. Not the best thing I've ever watched in my life, but watchable. The plots are quite original. I read one of the Dirk Gently books but can hardly remember anything about it, except that the god Thor was in it. I got the impression the series was faithful to the spirit of the books.
