I enjoyed this book although it is a-bit long. I think Hawthorne had good comments to make on abstract ideas such as hidden sin and guilt. He uses symbolism liberally and it can be confusing but the symbols really help the audience to grasp his meaning. I really like how this book addresses moral issues about sin and how humans in general tend to judge others on their appearances and what they wear. I think we should caution against labeling this book as stupid and boring just because it's lengthy and overly discriptive. The theme Hawthorne shares with us is very thought out and well written.
