View Full Version : Losing Me

The ring slipped
from my finger
into the ocean's
murky depths
and part of me is lost.
Oh what endless possibilities
belong to these tides
which sweep us off balance!
Buried in the sea bed
for all eternity,
washed up on the shore
where other dreamers
search for answers
amongst dried kelp
or swallowed whole
like a castaway
to be hooked by a
seaworthy vessel
called Saviour.
For now
I ebb,
I flow
I ponder.

The poem left me with a good feeling, but I wonder if that was the intent. A lot of possibility opens up after an imbalance.
Overall, it reminds me of Niles Eldridge's evolutionary theory of punctuated equilibrium. The equilibrium is the stable ebb, flow and pondering. The sporadic punctuation with extinction and speciation is the imbalance and opportunity.

Thanks Yes/No. It is an opportune poem.

Delta rides the waves! :)
There's a real coldness of deep oceans and overcast beaches to this. Searching for sunlight, but I'm imagining the thoroughly cold life of penguins.
(It's very cold today and I have the window open, so maybe it's influencing me)

Delta, for me it sounds like divorce or some sort of parting or breaking of a promise. I read regret and hope in your poem. The good thing is that at the end you ponder and maybe question.

It is about hope and possibilities Miyako and not knowing what they are so I ponder. Thank you for seeing that.

A nice journey of thought.

Delta, I also liked this one as well. The poem itself has a nice ebb and flow that lets the reader meander with you.

Everythinng was going along well as in a scene captured in a masterful medium-shot and then...
And then one was jolted by the close-up of the last three lines. Beautiful!

Thanks for your reviews. This is not one of my better poems but I really did lose my ring in the ocean on Saturday!
