Movie Adaptation of Thomas Hardy's Tess of the d'Ubervilles

Hey all,

New to the forums here. It looks like Thomas Hardy's novel Tess of the d’Ubervilles is being adapted into a movie and is getting both a modern and geographic makeover. I'm very curious to see they pull off the story in India.

The adaptation is being called Trishna and will be coming out in July. Here's the trailer:

Interesting, I started watching a DVD of the Roman Polanski version with Natasha Kinski as Tess. I could only bear to watch about twenty-five minutes of it though.

I suppose attitudes in India are changing fast but that they still have more 'traditional' values towards sex before marriage there, so an updated version of Tess might work well transplanted there. I've no idea really. Just as well they didn't transplant her to Pakistan or Iran though; they'd probably stone her.

There is actually a four part one from 2008 on amazon instant video . I started it but did not finish. It was okay but not great. I will have to check out the new movie though.

Haha it is Roman Polanski for you. A bit two tense.
I think Bitter Moon I think Polanski I think a bit weird.
