I was wondering if you guys have noticed any binaries in The Rocking-Horse Winner by Lawrence.
When I was looking up binary oppositions, I found it interesting that it said that one side of a binary pair is always more valued in society over the other.
This was interesting because the main pair I found in this piece was reality vs. pretense.
The main character pretends to love her children but throughout the work, there are hollow objects that represent the emptiness of her feelings toward her children.
There's also the use of the word "uncanny" where something is familiar yet unfamiliar and I thought this was interesting, seeing that it related to the real vs. appearance binary.
Any thoughts? :)
