In his dream, Jordyn was walking around his neighborhood. The city was barren as far as he could see. No sounds or cars. Nothing. It seemed so forbidding, with the sky filled with dark clouds and the sense of foreboding in the air that came with the occasional gust of wind.
Suddenly, a gale pushed Jordyn back a few steps, bringing along a giant blizzard completed with literal blocks of snow that turned Jordyn’s surroundings white. Peering through his shielding arm, the blizzard stopped and the tornado dwindled away, revealing a girl his age, about 9 years old, wearing a cloak that seemed to have been made by the snow itself. Her auburn hair was braided back showing her pale perfect face. Her face had an unrealistic feel to it, completed with sad, hazel eyes. Jordyn knew that he had seen her before, but where?
“Who are you?” Jordyn blurted out. His voice echoed through the emptiness. The girl walked toward him and laid a hand on his shoulder.
“I’m Diana.” she smiled, a little wistfully. “One day you’ll remember me and we’ll see each other for real, but for now, I’ll wait for you. It was nice to see you again, even if you don’t remember me. I don’t regret this.” She started to fade, as well as the rest of the phantom city.
Jordyn gained his voice back, as for some reason he couldn’t interrupt Diana.
“Wait!” he cried. “What do you mean? Where have I seen you before?”
Diana just smiled sadly and dwindled away with the receding snow. Soon after, a dark shape rose out up out of the shadows. Cackling maliciously, it took a swipe at him. Right as its hand-shaped stump connected with his side, Jordyn woke up, shivering.
He was thirteen then. Now he’s sixteen and the dream was a half-forgotten memory.
Until now.
Jordyn had a major headache, being more quiet than usual. His parents had left for a business trip, not coming back until the end of the week on Christmas Eve. At school he was used to being invisible. He could have worn a clown suit and no one would have looked at him twice. At the end of the day, in the middle of walking home, the dream had popped up in his head for a second. A glimpse of white. A flash of a girl’s smile.
Jordyn’s migraine got worse, as if something was desperately hammering the inside of his head, straining to get out. As he got on his block, a blizzard quickly started, and a girl appeared out of the midst of the blizzard. Finally Jordyn’s headache ebbed away as his dream was finally remembered when he looked at the girl that was walking toward him.
“Diana.” Jordyn whispered.
She smiled. “I’m glad you remember me, Jordyn.”
“Of course I did!” Jordyn said, trying to look better by brushing back his brown hair with his fingers and smoothing out his ever-wrinkled clothes. “ You told me that you’d met me even before the last time you talked to me. What were you talking about?"
Diana looked away from him, slowly reddening in embarrassment.
“I’ll tell you after, after...”Diana’s voice faded and she looked up at him hopefully.
“What?” he said uncomfortably, never having a girl look at him like that.
“I need your help. I’m stuck in a...a bad situation. I really need to get out of it. Can you please help me?” Diana had a smile on her face, but Jordyn saw the sadness that was in her expression before, like she was used to people telling her no and ignoring her.
He quickly made a decision as he saw Diana as a girl badly in need of help.
“Of course I will. I promise!” he said, hoping he woundn’t regret it.
Diana leaped up in joy, but when she took Jordyn’s hand, the ground shook and revealed where Diana's true whereabouts were.
Jordyn gasped as the winter wonderland changed into the inside of a volcano. He looked down from the rock cliff they were on. When seeing the white-hot lava down below, Jordyn jerked back and stared out at their surroundings.
The sloping walls were made of bits of rocks, some glowing red like the embers in a dying fireplace. The only exit was the circular opening on top. On the other side of the giant, fiery landscape, the rocks shifted and moved.
When Jordyn looked closer, he saw it was a being, no doubt the one intruding on that long ago dream when he was 9 years old. It was completely made of coal with glowing embers as eyes and the same evil laugh. Jordyn slapped his forehead. What had he just promised to do for Diana?
*I had to shorten it because it's something for my class and I have to hand it in soon. Anything I should fix?
