I've decided to not engage in any arguments on this site. It only leads to bad feelings. And it takes away time that I could be spending on other more valuable things--such as writing. So farewell to argument

Great choice, it will make us all better to take that route.

Now why did that make me think of Monty Python's argument sketch?

Scher's ended the argument without due care and attention, or is guilty of pacification in a built up area.

Like Hell we have. Let me get this party started with some "questions"
God -- real or fake? Discuss.
Stephanie Meyer: the modern Shakespeare? Discuss.
Is PERSON NAME HERE Hitler? Discuss.
Why POEM NAME HERE sucks and why POEM NAME HERE rocks. . . . . Discuss. . .
I could keep going. :reddevil::reddevil:

Calmer, possibly. Not necessarily better. I think intellectual argument is hugely improving. It's trading insults that's a waste of time.

I agree, but there is a big difference between intellectual argument or constructive debate and petty insults. I suspect the OP meant the latter anyway.

I agree. It only leads to bad feelings when it gets personal, and even then not necessarily. Several of us were recently insulted repeatedly in the general lit subforum, and yet we're still engaging the OP--I'm not holding any grudges. Debate is at the heart of a discussion forum.

I disagree with your decision strongly. Can you provide a bit more rationale other than ''bad feelings''?
I view this as surrender, unless you can argue otherwise:smilewinkgrin:

Hehe...so much here to discuss may be the word argument should be omitted so that we engage in all sorts of discussions.
Is one able to discuss without arguing?
It could be a target we should all practice to see if we can achieve it, I think it worth if for the sake of conversations opinions and views.

We may be caught in the word argument, which is not important. We can use that word as a way to work out our ideas. Discussion, argument, etc. All the same really. But name-calling and crap that like is silly on a board like this, with many intelligent and educated people. Let's leave that to the dummies on less intellectual websites. And I say that in the most snobbish way possible.

I agree. I do like to read the serious discussion forums but they do get rather heated at times and personal (in the most snobbish way possible) A great source of entertainment indeed.

I once saw two professors almost come to blows in a lineup at a sandwich place in my school's mall. It was hilarious. It could only have been better if they were wearing tweed.
