Were it not for a pestilent soul,
never would I have milked the potion
of ghostly shadows
nor suckled on their wailing torment
as I lay in a deathly cradle of revenge.
Had I purged my heart instead
of every black rooted sorrow
and sought the bosom of courage,
where the hand of love's sweet antidote
would then cleanse me of my sin...
Ah, but wishes cannot be undone.

Beautiful. I got the meaning right away and it was said with beauty and grace.

Thanks Shadows. Shakespeare entered my life this Easter holidays!

Does anyone else have any comments on this piece?

Yeah I do. (But I have to get "off the expletive deleted" computer and get a
certain party's supper, so I'll make it quick.)
It's wonderful that you're discovering/re-discovering the Bard in the month in which he's closely associated. You'll find, as you read his works more and more, much inspiration, not only in how you view Life, but how to write about it!
Just a suggestion: why not try emulating his form(s)-- not necessarily full-length plays, but blank verse and/or sonnets? It will be good experience and will further develop your craft. Not that it isn't remarkable where it is now!

Thanks auntie.
Shakespeare is one of the units available on the post-grad diploma I'm considering doing later this year....
I do have his sonnets here but I really would prefer to share the journey with other people (plus I have some really dumb questions to ask!)

Who said "There are no dumb questions"? It was followed, I think, by "There are only dumb answers." And neither of yours is "dumb", but this is a very moving and sad poem.
