Would I continue from thought the same way I would from speech?

For example:

My heart stopped thumping and I thought Oh dear, it must be supper-time!

In what context/application?

What I mean is, is there universal law to ending a paragraph at a thought.

And used in a third person reference by a first person narrative.

Sometimes I hate them. I can see it in their eyes they are thinking You darling little thing. I must touch you, pet you, play with you, lick you and maybe even desecrate you!

I don't think so because you are already writing in the first person. I'm pretty sure you don't need speech marks there anyway.

AFAIK thoughts traditionally go in italics as you have it, but since it's presented as a quote, the other punctuation rules applying to quotes would here as well--for example, the comma after "thought" and "thinking" in your examples.
