Let six bare-breasted porn stars
Carry her scarlet and gold coffin,
While baboons dressed in purple
Rise up from the choir clashing their cymbals
And elephants blow on their silver trumpets.
From above two madmen strike chords from the organ.

Weakened by cancer, but enlivened by steroids
She made plans for the future
Buying a pink stetson and silver boots.
I kneel in the quiet darkness
And see her coffin poised before the curtain.
Someone has placed the hat and boots
On its plain dark surface;
They gleam and are gone.

The lilac blooms at my backdoor.
Its perfume fills my mouth
As I come out into the sunshine.
O my sister, O my sister.

You are my new hero.
The imagery smacks with a dizzying blend of glam and gloom.
It's about the loss of someone who lived recklessly, correct?

I liked this very much. It is bizarre, reverent, and tender.

I was reminded of Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness" somehow..."She may get weary and young girls they do get weary, wearing that same old shaggy dress..."

I am not sure if real events inspired this, but it has real depth to it given the strange setting of the funeral scene.
