With your longness and your yellowness
So easy to confuse a smug banana
Few things goad so much as shallowness
But we'll excuse this new Pollyanna

Personally don't know what to say to you
Except thanks for making me grin
As a sociological experiment it's too true
My advice is to take it on the chin

You proved once again our need to vent
Toward something tangibly facile
Better a suicide bomber than to be sent
An explosively vitriolic hate-email

Preferable forgotten and to die unknown
Than cause the world to depise us
Don't set yourself up, won't be put down
With facial analogy to plate o' pus

Such number've exercised collective turd
In an afronted response of shock
A woman of whom we have never heard
Whose beauty professed we mock

Shine on your life in the south of France
An undistinguished job underpaid
Become your star this week, and dance!
Of derisive derogatory be unafraid

By fate and though yours'll be compared
Beauty goes straight to the bone
And yours is rare - here I'm not prepared
For anybody's superego condone

Yet there be those whose beauty is bound
They are mostly the majority hag
Who have submitted to their inner hound
The personality carried in poopbag

Though not my type - oh no! So far from't
May as well concede that I've myself
Grasp'd impromptu compliment at a prompt
Be it said by giant, or even from elf

But tell of how wonderful I may think I are?
I wouldn't dare due to comments anti
You should fret not dear poor Samantha

We've brought you a complimentary bottle of spewmante

Thanks Tailor :)

Actually I'm a bit embarrassed about this.

It was an over-reaction to the Samantha Brick story, which I clicked on (probably for a glimpse of this self-proclaimed Beauty Queen with an intent to hate her if she didn't measure up - what can I say? I'm human), when the headline appeared in my morning browser. I read the few paragraphs provided, and then clicked a further link for the original column, and sat thinking: 'What is this bullshi t!?'

I dunno - it was just a stupid news item to wake to, though harmless compared to other stuff that was going on, it made me think of what the world really is - and how defenceless we are against the greater and far worse ugliness of (in)humanity - the recent plight of the rhino (thousands attacked and killed for their horns so far this year and imminent extinction) and the Indonesian government's greed and stupidity in not enforcing the law to protect the habitat of the few remaining orangutans.

But none of it matters because Samantha Brick's appeared out of nowhere to tell of her incredibleness (accompanied by some pretty ordinary photographs - let's be honest), and how her female friends dump her for being too exceptional, and blah blah blah

A few articles have appeared since, some ridiculing her, some trying to get a different perspective on it - and perhaps I should have waited to wake up a bit more, to understand more deeply the intention of the Daily Mail of not only letting it be published, but actively promoting it - and what the Daily Mail's bottom line actually is.

As for SB's BS - we've all done something dumb at one time or another, and it in part defines Who We Are (at least amongst long standing friends), and quite honestly her article is not the worst thing - any of my old school mates - myself included - could easily trump this.

A strange inherited trait of human nature really - we don't care if anyone is faster, stronger, smarter, generally better at everything than us - but damn if they try to rub it in our face! And yet on the other hand - you think you're amazing? Good luck to ya!
