Jack of Hearts

i am a blue robin.
mama's frying pan burns me when she flips homefries.
the way the sunshine falls in through the blinds
is breaking my heart.
i can hear the breathing wind,
see it push the banded leaves apart.
where had breakfast gone?
when i gaze into the dark
where the ceiling should be,
the starched sheets drawn tight under me
and shut your eyes, a lullaby
will make everything alright
for a blue robin.

the way the sunshine falls in through the blinds
is breaking my heart.
