Well, without any context, my initial reaction is that Priestly is suggesting something along these lines: that which organizes our necessary and uninspiring, non-spiritual activities runs on whatever we chose to do or not to do, but the inner time, our wife, is a time that can be richly rewarding or wholly enervating depending on how well we cultivate the relationship.
