A recent webpag presents the "world's worst poem." (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/23/waffle-house-poem_n_1375577.html?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl25%7Csec3_lnk3%26pLid%3D146504) (Click underlined phrase.)

Do you agree?

If not, which poem should receive that "honor"?

It's a Vogon conspiracy!

I suspect it's an insurance scam or something. I do know it's completely failed to inspire me to visit the Facebook page, let alone the Waffle House ever.

The trouble with it being called the 'worst' though - there are simply too many vying for the title down there - in a race for last place, the contenders are too thick and brawly to let a single entrant get to the finish line.

But in this case I need to know the motivation - who submitted it to the Huff? Was it committed as a bid for free publicity? It has certainly now received it, as in my easily distracted mind I couldn't tell you who won the 2011 50 Grand Canadian Poetry Prize, but I don't think I'll ever be able to forget Waffle House!

I've read for worse doggerel in the local paper. You know the ones where people write their protests into a poem. Awful. I was looking for an example, but couldn't find one of our local ones online. I might have to look at the real thing.

Sounds like the journalist would explode if he read poetry that didn't fit specific schemes or forms. That's his problem. And that doesn't make a poem any good... Have you seen some of the crap they publish in magazines? They pay for those, you know. And even this publicity stunt is better then some of the work I've seen published.

It seems like the journalist doesn't have a clue. He isn't reading enough to know how bad work can really be, and he isn't wise enough to realize this isn't a serious piece. I get the impression Joe just googled basics about standard poetry while writing this and possibly giving the writer the publicity he wanted.
